19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
